Read to inspire your heart and mind, then sleep in peace with the angels. One of the best ways to transition from the energy of day into the peace and slumber of night is with an exceptional, inspirational read. A key to regaining your energy is quality sleep.

To help recharge and re-balance your adrenal glands you must sleep eight hours a day AND be in bed, asleep, by 10:00 p.m. (Ten P.M.)

This month, try one of more of these feel-good, do good books:

The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun by Gretchen Rubin with its companion, The Happiness Project One-Sentence Journal: A Five-Year Record

Next, I recommend, The Hidden Gifts of Helping: How the Power of Giving, Compassion, and Hope Can Get Us Through Hard Times

Eat and Drink to Boost Your Energy and Feel Better – Fast!

I must give a HUGE thank you to my good friend Russ Merrill. Russ is author of an excellent, easy to read guide called, The Vitamin, Mineral and Herb Guide A quick overview of the benefits and uses of vitamins, minerals and herbs. For more information and to order your copy, please click here:  http://vitaz.com/catalog/c3_p1.html He also produces an excellent supplement pack that I use: Click here for more information and to order for yourself: The Vitaz ENERGY BASICS® packet

Anyway, to make a long story – short … I called Russ about the pitiful health predicament of my husband Michael and moi. He advised me to get us off of any and all sugar, including “natural” sugar. Russ also gave me an extremely easy diet to follow. We’ve been on it for about three weeks. Michael has lost twenty-five pounds and greatly reduced his back pain. I’ve lost seven pounds. Happy New Year indeed!

Everyone keeps asking me how we’ve done it … Without further ado, here is Russ’s Diet! Whenever possible I’ve included a link to Amazon where the pricing on some of his recommendations is excellent. I also love to save time on shopping and it doesn’t take much to get free shipping included!

DO whatever makes your heart sing.

One thing that makes my heart sing and gets my blood pumping is volunteering with favorite animal rescue organizations. I’ve been and continue to be a volunteer dog-walker. (link to post about volunteer dog walking.)

I’ve also fostered numerous pups and purrs in need. As much as I give to them they give back so much more and always seem to plop in my life at the perfect time – the perfect time in retrospect!

Other ways to support animal rescue include helping out at adoption events, participating in fund-raisers like bake sales, bingo and spaghetti nights etc.

If this way of doing, meeting and making new friends, human and fur-friends, appeals to you, go to: http://www.petfinder.com to find your local shelter to start volunteering. Another way is to find your local “Breed Specific Rescue” and support them. If you grew up with standard poodles there is a group for them, same goes for Greyhound, Beagles, Bichons … Use your internet browser to search. For example:  German Shepherd Rescue, Fredericksburg, VA
