Stand UP & Power DOWN

It’s so easy to feel better. Often we don’t have to change much or buy anything extra. If you already own a car, a couch, some chairs, a bed and a smart phone you will find this month’s energy-boosting recommendations to be absolutely FREE.

Stand UP!
We spend way too much of our day laying or sitting down. It’s not natural and it isn’t healthful either. We used to have to chase down our chow and walk for miles to get somewhere else. Now everything we need is just a few paces or a car ride away.

This week, stand UP more. Stand UP when you talk on the phone with friends and go through your mail. Stand UP when you watch the news. Stand UP and stretch to start and end your day.

Power DOWN
I recently went through a nightmare spell of insomnia. It coincided with my upgrade from a flip phone to a “smart” phone. Coincidence? Hardly.

Flip phones, in case you don’t remember them, are only useful for calling or texting (while standing UP.) Smart phones are palm sized computers that are endlessly interesting. They also emit a bright light that keeps the sleepy-time dopamine at bay for hours and hours.

BIG thanks to my doc for helping me connect these dots. Since I started powering DOWN two hours before bedtime and charging it up in the kitchen vs. my bedroom the insomnia is gone and waking up refreshed is back!

Fatigue Facts & Stats

* 20% of Americans claim to have fatigue intense enough to interfere with their having a normal life.

* 80% of American women will suffer from Adrenal Fatigue at some point in their lives. Who? Most susceptible are new moms, students, shift workers and women in transition (job loss or gain, moving and relocating, marriage, divorce.) Change for the better or worse is a major trigger.

* More than half of American women (60%) say they only get a good night’s sleep a few nights per week or less, and 67% say they frequently experience a sleep problem.

•  Women who spend less than 7 hours in bed at night are more likely to doze off during the day, report symptoms of depression and drive drowsy.

If constant fatigue is sucking the joy out of your life, don’t just take it – do something!  One recommendation is to read by – Dr. Perlmutter. His work is outstanding and was so shocking to me that change was easy! I am now gluten-free, 15 lbs lighter and having a couple migraines a month vs. every week. Oh and I have a TON more energy too. Your turn.

I’ve watched this single dietary shift (total elimination of gluten) lift depression, relieve chronic fatigue, reverse type 2 diabetes, extinguish obsessive-compulsive behavior, and cure many neurological challenges, from brain fog to bipolar disorder.” – Dr. Perlmutter, Grain Brain

Drink up & boost your energy – FAST.

The fastest way to feel better and boost your energy is easy. Drink up! Aim for eight glasses of energized water. If you love your coffee, add in a couple of extra glasses to balance out.

Energy Boost Water “How to” and Recipe:
Start with two glasses of water, first thing in the morning, before coffee or breakfast. Our bodies wake up dehydrated and need to be refreshed. Continue replenishing throughout your day with a glass of water at least thirty minutes before any meal and an hour or so after meals. Cut off the spigot a couple of hours before bedtime so you can sleep tight, all night.

Energized Water Recipe:
Just add the following into as many of your glasses as possible. Note: Lemon, and any citrus, is hard on your enamel. Rinse your mouth afterwards.

* A squirt of fresh lemon juice (cleanses your system) and
* An 1/8 tsp of Sea Salt (boosts low blood pressure).

The Sea Salt (not table or iodized salt) boosts blood pressure. Most people with Adrenal Fatigue have low blood pressure and need this boost. If your water tastes “good” to you with the salt, continue. That’s a sign your body needs it. If it doesn’t taste good, pass.

Hallelujah Hummus Plus – Gluten Free, Energy Boosting Snack

Hallelujah Hummus Plus

This is one of my favorite snacks and it is soooo FAST and easy to make with the “Magic Bullet.” This recipe is one of many with the ‘bullet” and can be made in a couple of minutes – max.

Step 1. Load the following into your bullet (or blender)

¼ cup Chicken (or vegetable) Stock
14 oz can Chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained
3 cloves Garlic
2 Tbs Lemon Juice
3 Tbs. Tahihi (sesame paste)

Step 2Add these energy-boosters
½ tsp Kelp Powder
½ tsp Sea Salt
1 tsp Cayenne Pepper

Step 3. Blend!
Psst. You can check out the Magic Bullet in our Amazon store. Just click here and look in the “Kitchen Equipment” List.

Scoop your hummus into a pretty bowl, drizzle olive oil on top and serve with a side of veggies and gluten-free crackers.

Another fun way to present it is to make little cucumber sandwiches or lettuce roll ups. You can pack these “to go” in lunches. I  also like to use fun, colorful toothpicks or paper umbrellas to jazz it up for snacks with friends.
