The energy-boosting power of dance!

I love to dance and it is one of the fastest and easiest ways to boost energy and break out of any kind of slump (writer’s block, tedious chore blues, loneliness & anxiety.)

Years ago when I ended a major relationship I was so down, lonely and disconnected. Depression is exhausting – mentally, physically and spiritually.

The last thing I wanted was to “rebound” and fill that gaping hole with another loser relationship.

I signed up for Salsa Classes.

Long story short, I got the touch and connection I craved, 2 min with this man and 2 min with that man! I made a fabulous new group of friends. We were all there for the same reason, just had different stories. This Friday night class was something I could look forward to and it brought back the simple joy of TIGF!

Physically I worked out the kinks in what had been a chronic back pain and danced my way back into a supple spine. Emotionally I built back my self-esteem (Salsa Dancing isn’t easy and positive non-threatening attention from 2 minute men was great!) I strutted and swayed my stuff right out of depression and fed my worn out adrenal glands the “right stuff”, FUN!

If you are feeling blah, depressed or down right exhausted, your cure could start with a dance class. Look at your life. If you don’t see a weekly date with joy, fun, and friends all the pills and massages in the world are not going to make a difference. Joy is part of the Fatigue Be Gone! prescription.

Let’s dance, dance, dance! (And post later and tell me all about it!)

Hugs! Viveca

The Re-Energizing Power of the Pup! (and the purr)

Just back from my weekly volunteer time ay my SPCA. One day a week I walk dogs for a couple of hours and twice a month I host their TV Show called “Making Friends.” Some days I have to drag my butt in there but I always leave with a spring in my step and my heart.

According to Dr. Stephen Post, author, Why Good Things Happen to Good People: How to Live a Longer, Healthier, Happier Life by the Simple Act of Giving, “Stress related health problems improves after performing kind acts. Helping reverses feelings of depression, supplies social contact, and decreases feelings of hostility and isolation that can cause stress, overeating, ulcers etc. (like fatigue.) A drop in stress may, for some people, decrease the constriction within the lungs that leads to asthma attacks.”

Whew. That is a lot of good that comes out of doing good.

To locate your neighborhood shelter, go to PetFinder.com and click on the “Animal Shelter” Tab. For more information about the healing power of pets and purrs, click here: http://www.dogcaptions.com/page4704.html

When you’re on stage …

Today I remembered a saying that goes like this …
When you’re on stage it’s a tragedy but
when you’re in the audience, it’s a comedy
.”

A girlfriend and I was talking about some pretty tough stuff, tough love and laughing uproariously. Why? Because that’s the magic of friendship. It can turn the most bitter pill into a bag of delicious red and purple jelly beans.

And the reason there are so many people on planet earth is God’s way of giving us as many opportunities for friendship as possible.

If you’re reading this … go call a girlfriend about what’s bugging you. Get off stage, move directly into the audience and shine some light on it. Watch it melt away in a funny way.

On the other side — if you just couldn’t be any happier in your life than you are already I have news for you. You can be happier. Go call a friend in need and take them into the audience with you.

Life is short even if we live to old age. Let’s be joyful about it.

Book Study: The Dynamic Laws of Healing

The Dynamic Laws of HealingIntroduction

You have healing power! Yes, each of us are healers, not just some of us. We have the power to make ourselves ill AND the power to heal.

Men ought to know that from the brain and from the brain only arise our pleasures, laughter, and jests, as well as our sorrows, pains, griefs and fears.-Hippocrates, Greek physician

The First Step Toward Healing

Getting ready to blast off (dynamic) and putting your life in order (law) hence the title, The Dynamic Laws of Healing. The book is a compilation of healing accounts of people who have learned and applied the “laws” of healing (“No” Law, “Surprise” Law, “Yes” Law etc.)

Health means the state of being whole, hearty, and sound in all phases of your being – spirit, soul, body and affairs. Health includes healthy financial affairs; healthy relationships with others; a healthy spiritual understanding. – Catherine Ponder

Music to Soothe the Beast (Fatigue) and Raise Your Energy HIGH!

All about the amazing, re-energizing benefits of music!

I came across some fabulous information on the energizing benefits of music. This week I’ve been applying just a couple of the tips and that has really increased my focus and enjoyment.

For example …

“Classical music, such as Haydn and Mozart, often improves concentration and memory when played in the background.”(So I have been listening to a lot of Chopin to get through my “get out of town” workload.)

“Big band, Top 40 and country music engage our emotions and comfort us.” (right on, agree)

“Ambient or New Age music such as Stephen Halpern and Brian Eno has no dominant rhythm, so it elongates the sense of space and time, inducing a state of relaxed alertness.” (Yes, this is my Reiki music and I use it when I need more time to get things done.)
